Software Manager

Location: Boston, MA 

As our Client’s software manager, you will lead a growing team of programmers developing our  world-class audio test system – adding new features and improving existing ones. You will manage all  aspects of the software development cycle using Agile principles, including design, validation,  bug-fixing, beta testing and release to meet specifications from the product manager and release  deadlines. You will lead, nurture and develop the team, and recruit additional talented engineers. Being  in the key leadership role for the software team, you will be working closely with the company president  and product managers, so strong collaborative skills are essential. You will also be expected to roll up  your sleeves and pitch in with development, so programming or DSP ability and competency in, or a  willingness to learn, LabVIEW are critical. A proven track record in software management is essential,  and a perfectionist streak, pride in your work, attention to detail and a willingness to be open about  challenges and discuss them with others are key characteristics that are required for this role.  

The Product: ​The Product is a powerful large scale LabVIEW-based electroacoustic test software  solution, used for R&D and production line testing of loudspeakers, microphones, hearing aids,  telephones, headphones, headsets, MP3 players, and other audio electronics. It is a commercial product  with an annual release cycle to keep pace with changing test requirements and to add functionality. The  product has a rich 20 year history, and is the accepted standard in many blue-chip and Fortune 500  companies worldwide.

 Skills and Education  Required  

  • 3+ years’ experience of directly managing a team (including hiring and performance management), plus 5+ years in software development as an individual contributor or technical lead
  • Experience in Agile methodologies including Scrum
  • Experience in managing and prioritizing all aspects of a software release cycle, including development, validation, bug-fixing, beta testing and release to meet product development deadlines
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience coaching, motivating and appraising a diverse team
  • Proven track record of delivering on-time, quality software applications for Windows, Mac or Linux platforms  
  • Experience in performing code reviews and familiarity with coding standards
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a computer science or scientific subject Advantageous  
  • An interest in acoustics or sound and vibration engineering
  • Knowledge of audio processing algorithms, acoustics, measurement techniques
  • Competency in LabView, Excel, Matlab and database programs
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (TCP/IP, USB)
  • Experience with, and an appreciation for, excellent user interface design
